D6 Fundraising Example
Name: Charles Moe
Competency: D6
Artifact Title: Fundraising Example
Artifact Type: The front cover of a brochure for a fundraiser
Rationale For Inclusion: Competency D6 states that a teacher of music shall know how to involve representatives of business, industry, and community organizations as active partners in creating educational opportunities. In organized school music ensembles such as choir or band, touring can be a fun and valuable experience. The problem is that these trips can be very expensive and hard to finance for many families. Fortunately there is an industry devoted to helping organizations such as high school bands and choirs raise money for such expenses. There are different fundraising companies that give a portion of money made to the students who sell their products. This money is typically used to go on tours but is sometimes used for other expenses as well. This is a good example of businesses being involved in the creation of educational opportunities.
